“I love my mother, and my sisters, and my nieces… and they should be able to decide who they want to be and what they want to do.”

Philip, proud uncle of Maeve (10), is a carpenter by trade (and boat captain), who seeks to “build bridges rather than walls,” which sums up feminism to him. “It’s about love and justice,” says this Ashtanga yoga devotee. “I don’t know how you can love someone and put limits on them.”

“I do the diapers, the babies at night, the dishes, laundry—you name it. I’m a happy stay-at-home dad and never understood what men had against women anyway.”

With three kids under age six, Billy’s adept at juggling naps, playdates, swim lessons and general domestic chaos. “I have more and more admiration for [stay-at-home] mothers every day,” says this former nine-to-fiver who now manages the household by day and waits tables at night so his wife, a philosophy professor, can pursue her career.

“I’ve been a dancer for years—salsa was my true love—then I tried tango and was completely captured. I haven’t turned back since,” says Dale, a recent Charleston transplant and local tango and Zumba teacher. “Whether you’re 19 or 90, you can tango. It changes your life.” Her mission to introduce others to the sensual Argentine dance led Dale to create TangoRojo, custom tango-oriented tours of Buenos Aires. Her travelers refine their finesse from native experts and go to milongas (dances) each night, dancing to the wee hours.

“Word of mouth” is the marketing plan for Natasha and husband Massimiliano’s custom Italian tours—fitting for these food and wine lovers. Former owners of Charleston’s primo Italian restaurants (most recently Pane e Vino), Natasha and Massi have been sharing their taste for travel for eight years, taking small groups on intimate nine-day Tuscan sojourns several times a year. Natasha orchestrates the logistics; Massi masterminds the meals.

When crime scenes get fishy, Trey’s your guy. The marine biologist deciphers the DNA of suspicious seafood, whether its whale sushi in Los Angeles or imported farm-raised catfish disguised as grouper at local restaurants, and handles multitudes of other forensic issues for NOAA. “No day is ever the same,” he says. And when he’s not in the lab identifying marine species, Trey helps breast cancer patients get the support they need through his work with Share Our Suzy, a non-profit that shares his late friend Suzy’s passion to help others battling the disease.

Caroline stays on the move. The CofC campus was more like base camp for her undergraduate adventures—a semester in Italy, a summer in Yellowstone, spring breaks in Jamaica and Costa Rica, a DC internship with the US House Committee on Global Health. Now this newly-minted grad goes to Uganda, where she begins graduate studies in human rights as a Rotary Ambassadorial Fellow. Caroline’s goal is to be a Foreign Service Officer. “I love being engrossed in another culture, and I love adventure. I always try to do something wild and crazy when I’m there.
