I’m new to Charleston...in fact, my four month anniversary with this gorgeous city is in less than two weeks!
As a newbie here in town, I’ve been trying to think of ways to meet people. I visited Meetup.com, which is a cool site that helps people form groups based on their interests in their community. I joined the German meetup group because I reaaaaalllly need to practice. Even though my parents (and grandparents and uncles and aunts, and so on) speak fluently, sometimes I blank out and forget things, like the word for spoon (Löffel ). The point is, I’m trying to stretch my brain and improve my language skills (Sabrina =1, Laziness =0). I can’t wait for the next German get-together. My hope guess is that there will be beer involved.
The other thing I’m trying to do is volunteer somewhere. Then, not only would I be meeting people, but I could help better the community that is now my home (Sabrina =2, Laziness =0). Not to jinx things, but the director of Redux invited me to come and visit, and meet with him about volunteering. How cool would that be? I love being around creative people. It helps me to become more creative, I think.
Now, you may be wondering why it’s taken me four months to take the initiative to get out there. I won’t blame my plan to finally read the entire Harry Potter series (Sabrina =2, Laziness =7) or my crisp, new, adorable Neflix membership (Sabrina =2, Laziness=143,827) but, instead, say, “At least I’m trying now!” (after I finish the 4 DVDs currently lying on my coffee table).
