There are two kinds of people, according to Kristen: Those who obsess about music, and those for whom it’s just background noise. She’s obsessed. As an undergrad at Wake Forest, she’d drive down to Carrboro to catch shows, or cruise to clubs in Charlotte. “I was always stalking out new music,” says this indie rock fan. Now as general manager of the Music Farm, the shows come to her. Kristen planted herself at the Farm in October, after working for four years at Charlotte’s Tremont Music Hall, “a dirty rock club,” where she ran the house and booked the shows. With the volume cranking up on Charleston’s music scene, Kristen foresees the Music Farm’s resurgence as one of the South’s premier venues. “I like taking care of the bands, and I like our fans. It’s great to watch them come in all excited about the music. So many people have memories tied to the Farm,” she says, “and I get to be part of that.”

A communications major in college, Kristen never imagined she'd actually get paid to go to shows. Her motto: "If there's a way to make a career out of something you love and are passionate about, then go for it."
