Stacy L. Pearsall shoots to share.

“I have three lenses, but I only use one. It seems limited, but when bullets are going past, you don’t have time to change lenses.” Stacy is no ordinary photographer; she’s a member of the only active duty Combat Camera unit in the U.S. Air Force. Her unit is dispatched in pairs (a videographer and photographer) to capture images for the Department of Defense. Her photos often end up on the front pages of The New York Times or the Chicago Tribune, but the 2003 Military Photographer of the Year is modest. She describes her style as “clean and simplistic,” and prefers to use “different layers of elements” in the photos, providing information through each subject and its surroundings. She’s also supportive of her fellow females; as only the second woman to have won Photographer of the Year, she warns, “Be supportive of other women, if they’re successful, congratulate them, ask them how they do it. If they’re not, give them a tip; it’s the only way we’ve ever going to make our way in society.” See Stacy’s work at www.F8pj.com.
