Summer Coish is steppe-ing outside the box.

Summer Coish wants everyone to get a piece of Steppe. The glossy coffee table magazine about Central Asia is deliberately designed to be aesthetically intriguing. “If you were in a bookstore and didn’t know anything about Central Asia, you see this and don’t know what it means—the design will attract people, and a younger audience, as well.” Originally working on her Masters in Public Health, Summer realized the region between China, Russia, and the European Union was a black hole in most people’s minds. “As a global community, we need to know about it, we need to appreciate it.” By focusing on culture more than politics, Steppe offers a glimpse into other parts of society that deserve to be shown. “My satisfaction comes from knowing that someone has learned something new after reading Steppe.” Find this “collectible, delectable” stylistic cousin of National Geographic online at www.SteppeMagazine.com or at Zinn Rug Gallery, 76 Wentworth St., Downtown.
