probably the best song ever

Monday, May, 12, 2008

in preparation for our june issue (all about music, musicians, and catchy tunes), i feel like i should introduce you to my new favorite song... though i need to preface this with a warning: i LOVE catchy, poppy, jump-around-in-heels-and-lipstick-and-scream music.

my absolute most favorite guilty pleasure music includes lots of gwen stefani, rihanna, spice girls, scissor sisters, things on jock jam soundtracks, kelly clarkson remixes, and any sort of techno with a celebrity singing (brittany murphy, paris hilton).

i used to joke with a friend that it was my “laker girl” music, because, well, i’d jump, kick, and wiggle around my apartment listening to this music when my boyfriend was safely away at work. it’s amazing how much talent you (think you) have when no one is looking.

so anyhow, with that being said, here is the next song to be added to my “i will shake my thighs off” ipod playlist: katy perry’s i kissed a girl not a remake of jill sobule’s classic.

i really recommend katy perry’s song – not only is it high energy poptasmic fun, but it also, i hope, reaches some of those high schoolers struggling with those Who Am I? questions. whether it’s wine cooler, double-dare, or honest-to-goodness crush induced, high school girls are always dealing with their sexuality, and this song is a fun, in your face anthem for adolescent life. (even though at this point i am legally allowed to buy said wine coolers.)

also probably the best video ever – katy perry’s other song.
