I am more than happy here at skirt!, but every once in a while I think about what other jobs I’d love to do if skirt! had never come into the picture:
* Interior Designer: I love, love, love decorating. While most women my age are reading Glamour, I read domino. I just rearranged my living room last Friday, and have never felt happier. Now, on to the dining room...
* Archaeologist: Those who have read my old blog entries know about the Egypt Club I tried to set up when I was a kid. The club consisted of me and...that’s it. I buried “artifacts” in the garden to dig them up and dust them off with my Mom’s old makeup brushes. Totally normal childhood.
* Shop owner: Whenever I go into stores, I think about how I would display the wares. I would scour thrift stores for clothing, furniture, old books, and random knick-knacks to fix up and re-sell for a slight profit. Thift shopping satifies the urge in me to dig up things from the past. I would want my store to be an independent version of Anthropologie and Nancy Koltes, with a coffeeshop a la Urban Standard thrown in.
Does anyone else think up “alterna-jobs” in their spare time? What are they?
