today was awesome. sabrina was at my house promptly at 7am to pick me up and cruise to columbia, sc state capital. we spent the morning at immaculate consumption, on main street in columbia, and had some spectacular conversations with women there. we talked to women from all backgrounds with different interests, who in some way or another all identified with feminism.

next stop was aiken (omg aiken is cute!) where we met with a trio of fabulous ladies who own a store called “women’s echoes.” they have some really fantastic things in there, if i had been left to my own devices in the store, i would have needed a second suitcase (and my first one is already larger than sabrina’s).

don’t worry nikki, we weren’t really incarcerated. this is across from takosushi where we had lunch in aiken :)

last stop of the day was at charis books in atlanta. my mind is still blown (at this point, it may also be because it is 11pm and i am running on 4 hours of sleep and numerous mini mental breakdowns).

the women who met us at the bookstore were so inspiring, so intelligent and thoughtful. we’ll be in touch with many of them in the future, and will even be meeting up with some in new orleans! (shout out: alyson hoag, whose company, authentic beauty, is doing makeovers for new orleans women at the superdome, could use your last minute donations!!!). oh yeah, we also got to meet ginger!

arrrrgh, i am leaving out so many details, but i just want to say thanks to everyone who has met with us, contributed to our discussions, given us ideas, and helped us out in towns we’ve never even been in before!! today has been an all-around great day, i couldn’t imagine starting out our trip any better (unless it was with a lighter suitcase and a bit more sleep...).

thanks all, see you tomorrow!

Hey Margaret and Sabrina! I'm so happy that you two enjoyed Aiken...isn't it precious? I'm just sorry that I didn't get to meet up with y'all and show you around-leave it to the pregnant girl to have to call it a day early. And Margaret you're so sweet to offer to reroute your exciting road trip to bring me Pepto! You truly understand feminism!!! Have a safe trip!
