i'm surrounded by fools

my boyfriend just sent me an email with a birthday present request. it was an article about flying penguins, and for his birthday (in a few weeks) he wanted the bbc documentary which featured the penguins. the documentary makers “also found a lizard that swallows itself to deter predators and a species of rapping frog that attracts mates by rubbing its hind legs together to make music.”

(full disclosure, he is english, so his homepage is set to the guardian or bbc at all times, he doesn’t just go around looking for random animal documentaries like this.)

turns out, the british media got together to pull this prank, so i could see how multiple sources may convince a person that flying penguins really do exist... but i didn’t fall for it – especially after watching the video of the penguins landing on a tropical island.

he’s just sent a follow up email swearing that he knew it was a prank the whole time, but i’m not too sure. i think he really wants a flying penguin for his birthday.
