tonight my group is having its last model meeting before the dress rehearsal and the big shebang. i’ll finally get a peek at my dress in an almost-finished state, yahoo!
also, a little treat for you non 9-5ers, my designer, phoebe byers, will be on lowcountry live friday morning, and i’ll be there too! i’ll probably just be lurking around wearing some fantastic phoebe-made dress while she says brilliant fashiony things about the show, but i hope you all get a chance to watch!
also: this weekend we had a runway workshop, which, i hate to admit, was really fun! we were originally supposed to have a male model from milan here to get our hips swaying and our feet stomping, but alas, he wasn’t there. instead we had a teeny tiny sized little firecracker of a woman who required us to “do something funky” each time we “walked” the concrete runway at the fountain walk behind the imax.

as we rotated through our first, second, and third “walks,” you could really see people opening up and letting their guard down. as a young woman, i know all the pressures of be small or be quiet, and it’s often hard to imagine yourself just as yourself, not as a product of anyone else around you. but it was true, as we kept walking, you saw the girls really entering and becoming themselves, walking with a purpose rather than a long, drawn-out shrug, not embarrassed at the requirement of “funkiness.”
what was equally interesting was finally seeing this huge group of girls, of all styles and body types, who had been enamored with this sideshow idea just as sabrina and i had been.
i hope you all are coming ($20!! what a steal!!) and that you appreciate all the strong, amazing women who have volunteered to both be in the show and put it together.
come back tomorrow for a report on my dress!
