Films as Inspiration.

Monday, February, 25, 2008

I love movies. Few things make me happier than being completely pulled in by a great film. They are also a huge source of inspiration to me. Sometimes when I’m journaling or doing any kind of art project, I put on a movie like Amelie (Le Fabuleux Destin d’ Amelie Poulain) just to have it on in the background. The cinematography, colors, and storyline make me feel full of creativity.

This past weekend, I watched Sequins (Brodeuses) and had a similar reaction. While the pacing of the story is quite slow (the main character’s passion is embroidery), you could take any screenshot from the film and hang it on a wall as art. The main character has curly, fiery orange/red hair and wears bright blues and sea greens that set her apart from her mostly gray little town. The story will make you smile and the colors and detailed embroidery are enough to inspire creativity in anybody.
