Back in the olden days (5 or 6 years ago) when I was in high school, I was funny. I was something of a social butterfly/class clown hybrid. I was the class clown, I floated from group to group with witty one-liners and sarcastic comebacks. Sometimes, legend of my humor traveled ahead of me, and at a party, or other social gathering, I would get the, “You’re Sabrina? Say something funny.” Immediately after, I would get the feeling I do when I look at a blank blog entry waiting to be filled...I get the feeling of dread that comes with knowing, beyond a doubt, that whatever comes out of your mouth (or fingertips) will not be half as brilliant, genius, or clever as it is in your head. In fact, it will likely be completely misinterpreted or fall totally flat.
Like good humor, good blogging flows best when it’s completely spontaneous. You’re talking (or writing) about some subject, and then BAM...something humorous hits. I can’t imagine being a professional comedian...somone who brainstorms jokes and tells them over and over, perfecting them like a craft. By the third time I’d tell a story, the humor would be all squeezed out...my story would be presented like a shrivelled, dried-out lemon.
Good humor, to me, is born out of 3am chats with your best friends after one too many whiskey sours-- random skinny-dipping and inpromptu dance parties.
It’s cliched jokes becoming real-life experiences (I’ve shared my tale of slipping on a banana peel in the middle of my college campus, haven’t I?)
Good humor is looking back at a situation in life that seemed tragic--that you would never feel OK about--and being able to laugh at some of it.
Either way, if I have any readers of this blog, please give me feedback! Let me know what you’d like to read or get my perspective on! Encourage me to fight my fear of the blank page and saying something funny.

I always wonder what kind of conversations go on in your office -- do you talk about the same things we do? (Celebrities, news headlines, debate about whose car is filthiest?) One thing I love about working in an office full of women is that topics that were strictly off-limits in previous jobs are wide open here.
