Yes, Charleston is a city filled with history, art galleries, fine dining, and luxurious hotels. It has parks, waterways, special events, an incredible farmers' market and so much more.
But here is the real reason why I'm glad to live in Charleston:

That’s right. Congratulations, Charleston! We are #3 on the top 25 Cities with the Most Attractive People! Give yourselves a pat on the back for being so polished, put-together, and, well, babetastic.
I can’t help but agree with Travel + Leisure magazine. Everywhere I turn, I feel like I’ve walked into a J.Crew catalog. It seems like everyone in Charleston is well-shod, well-coiffed, and well-dressed. There is the exception of the “college girl look” which is characterized by microscopic shorts, a massive hooded sweatshirt, and Ugg boots--but but still, these girls have nice skin and pretty hair, even if it is knotted at the top of their heads in a messy bun. But for every one of these girls, there are 4 who are wearing adorable dresses that are perfectly accessorized with the right shoes and bag, and it looks like they’ve gone to a salon for a blow-out for the the occasion that is their 9am sociology class.
The higher the age group, the better the dressing, in my opinion. I remember going to Sunday Brunch at Joseph’s this summer and couldn’t help but notice a couple that looked to be in their late 60s. The man had a straw hat, a seersucker suit and the perfect red bowtie. His wife had on a crisp white shirt with the collar up, tucked into a full linen skirt. Despite the heat, the couple looked happy and healthy, completely unfazed by the humidity with not a wrinkled garment between them.
What is it about Charleston? Maybe there’s something in the water. Maybe it’s because this is a place where people visit to get away from the stress of their daily lives. We’re surrounded by beautiful things and beautiful places, and thanks to the South, we move at a slightly slower pace. If we do get stressed, it’s just a few moments walk to a body of water where your stress is easily lulled by the sound of lapping waves or the view of sailboats on the horizon.
Thanks, Charleston, for making us beautiful.
